People skills come naturally for some people, while other learns by doing. Not everyone that is a great leader is also a great manager. Managing the day to day finances takes a lot of knowledge of different business loan options available. Leaders may prefer to delegate the details of day to day operations to managers. Networking can also be a skill on its own. Honing each of these talents will eventually lead you to greater success in business and life.

Leadership

In order to inspire people to work for you and your organization, you have to have some leadership skills. Like the lead goose in a flock of geese on a mission to head north, the people following you are going to look to you for direction. It’s not just about having confidence in your own abilities, it’s about inspiring others to perform at their peak performance because they trust your ability to lead them towards success.

Leaders usually hire managers to oversee the day to day operations of a company. They don’t really need to keep track of everything, they just have to keep in communication with those people who do know how to do that. They will be in charge of coordinated various people’s activities within the company so that the vision they see in the future can manifest slowly and no one is stepping on anyone’s toes.

To manage the details of a large organization you must be able to select people who enhance your team, be able to delegate tasks, and then listen to the advise of these professionals to understand how to best organize priorities to make everything work smoothly.

In business, management has a lot to do with the business finances. Keeping track of cash flow and raising capital to fund projects. It’s more about understand how the business process is working and where to fine tune the process. Most business managers will have extensive experience in how to track the bottom line and how to change daily operations to make sure cash flow doesn’t stop or stall. They manage their cash flow by modulating their inventories, assessing demand, and getting products with high margins selling. They also will cut back staff, if demand significantly drops so that the company can stay afloat during times when sales levels drop.

Networking

Every interaction you make is a type of networking, whether it is face-to-face or virtual. Most leaders as well as managers are great networkers. However, the leader tends to be more personal in their interactions, choosing to direct through face-to-face communications and presentations than through technical means. Managers, on the other hand, tend to use a great number of information tools to help them manage multiple areas under them. Networking for them can also be with employees and customers, instead of venture partners and shareholders (like a leader would do).
