The National Federation of Independent Business has done a survey and reports that small business owners are currently feeling much more optimistic at the moment.  For the past five years small businesses have been trying their darnedest to survive.  Those who were most efficient with downscaling, cutting fat, and extra careful budgeting had to witness many competitors close shop.  It appears that those survivors are now breathing a hesitant sigh of relief of the tender growth called business confidence.

Businesses may not even be near pre-recession sales numbers; however, they are making cautious plans to grow, expand, and reinvent themselves.  Let’s see how spirit and innovation of the entrepreneurs can breath life back into American capitalism.

The proprietors of the family-owned “Carlo’s Bakery” have jumped at their opportunity to reinvest in their business once it came knocking.  If the name sounds familiar, then it is because of their television fame as “Cake Boss” since 2009.  Instead of choosing being TV personalities they have opted to use their current fame to build upon the future of their original livelihood.

The tiny bakery in Hoboken, N.J. is still open for business, and a 30,000 square-foot expansion close to Jersey City has been secured. This extra space allows now for more on-hands help to fulfill the increased demand in pastries and special orders, and allows to offer baking classes and cooking lessons.  The next step on their wish list is to be able to ship orders.

Carlo’s Bakery will remain a bakery; this is what they always wanted to do.  The shop is a big part of who they are, and they work 6 days a week, regardless if a film crew is there or not.

The owners of the bakery shop stress to anyone who dreams of becoming an entrepreneur, that it will always take hard work to succeed.  It means being the first to arrive and the last one to leave, lots of innovation, and the ability to change and adapt to the situation at hand.
